What is Macular Degeneration treatment

Macular degeneration is also known as Age-Related Macular Degeneration (ARMD). It is classified as a common genetic condition. In this medical condition, which is rather common, the macula of the eye gets affected. Your eye consists of parts which are responsible to let you see your surroundings and its detailing. Among these parts there is what is known as the macula, which is located in the center of the retina. It is this part that allows you to enjoy the central part of your vision. When your macula is affected you will be able to view things thanks to your peripheral vision. However, whenever you see something the central part of the sight you are seeing will be burned out causing you to miss out on the details of what you are viewing. In short, ARMD impairs you and causes you partial blindness. Through early detection you can protect your vision. Science has advanced enough to develop a DNA test that takes into account your current health condition and your medical history and assess whether you might be affected with age-related macular degeneration at a later stage in life.

Taking such a test is helpful as it can alert you on whether you are prone to ARMD so that you can start macular degeneration treatment as soon as possible. This one-time test is pain-free and easy so there’s nothing to dissuade you from taking the test. What’s more is that it is preventive rather than reactive. The test first identifies your genetic makeup that is specific to you and highlights the uniqueness of your medical condition if any. It then accordingly suggests the vitamin supplement that will benefit you and prove to bring about health benefits. The same vitamin therapy does not work for every person as every person’s genetic composition is different. The correct macular degeneration treatment if given at an early stage can dramatically slow down vision loss. As per study results with standard formulation (AREDS) only 1/4th of the patients do best, while 3/4th patients need non-standard supplements. When prescribed standard formulation ½ the patient’s condition actually deteriorated in comparison to no treatment at all. As mentioned above, the treatment requirement differs from person to person and hence, it is significantly important to first find out exactly what treatment you require before blindly starting just any vitamin supplement therapy. The correct macular degeneration treatment will administer the right amount of vitamins and supplements in the measure that you require to be treated. A DNA test through a cheek swab and a wait of about 4-5 weeks is all it takes to protect your vision or better still ensure that your eye-sight will last you your lifetime.
